Chief Connor was shot and killed after being attacked by a man and his three sons. Chief Connor had arrested the man and the family was seeking revenge. After beating him the suspects shot him with his own service revolver.

Chief Connor had been with the agency for two years and was survived by his wife and two children.

Patrolman Franklin was shot and killed at 0100 hours in a cell at the Uvalde police station after he and another officer arrested a juvenile for intoxication and possession of alcohol. As they placed the boy in a cell he began to resist. Patrolman Franklin's holster and weapon was knocked to the ground during the scuffle. The boy was then able to gain control of the second officer's gun and shot Patrolman Franklin, killing him instantly. The second officer continued to struggle with the suspect but the boy freed himself and ran up the stairs.

A dispatcher confronted the suspect and disarmed him. He then placed the boy in an office and then went to check on Patrolman Franklin. The suspect escaped from the office but was returned to the police station by his mother. The boy was sentenced to six years.

Patrolman Franklin had been with the agency for 2 1/2 years and was survived by his wife, daughter, son, father, two brothers and two sisters.
